MMIP Community Events Across the U.S. – Spring 2025 Recap

Across the U.S., Spring 2025 was marked by powerful public gatherings held in honor of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP). From marches and prayer vigils to red-lighting public buildings, Indigenous communities and allies joined together to raise awareness, demand justice, and break the silence that has lasted far too long.

Event Highlights from Around the Country

Hosted by the Future Inspired Native American Leaders Youth Council and Phoenix Indian Center, this one-mile walk brought together hundreds of participants wearing red and carrying photos of loved ones. The event served not only as a memorial but also as a call to action.

Sacramento, California - Red Dress Vigil & Capitol Lighting

California’s State Capitol lit up in red in a symbolic gesture of remembrance. Community members gathered for a candlelight vigil, reading the names of missing and murdered Indigenous women and Two-Spirit individuals.

Grand Rapids, Michigan - March for MMIP

  • They empower families and survivors: Sharing stories, marching, and singing become acts of healing and resistance.
