ORANGE SHIRT DAY | SEPTEMBER 30
Orange Shirt Day grew out of Phyllis Webstad’s story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day at residential school. She was among the hundreds of thousands of Indigenous children who attended Indian residential schools in Canada between the late 1800s and 1996 and who must now live with the devastating and lasting effects. While wearing orange today reminds us of the impact of residential schools still felt, it’s also become a symbol of hope, ongoing healing and reconciliation and honours the experience of Indigenous Peoples.

WAYS TO SUPPORT ORANGE SHIRT DAY
Wear an orange shirt to show your support for those in the Native American community. Support those who did not escape the enduring impact of the trauma. Communities across the United States and Canada commemorate Orange Shirt Day by hosting memorials, candlelight vigils, and walks. Speakers offer a historical perspective to raise awareness.

We promise to donate to the "American Indian Child Resource Center" (https://aicrc.org) from the sale of orange shirts. "The organization in Oakland, California focuses on providing support and education services for Native American children and families. They offer various programs related to education, mental health, and family support.

    EVERY CHILD MATTERS

The phrase “Every Child Matters” comes from a Canadian movement addressing the trauma and inequality Indigenous children faced in residential schools.

It began with the story of Phyllis Webstad, whose new orange shirt was taken on her first day - a symbol of the loss of culture and identity.

Observed on September 30th, Orange Shirt Day raises awareness, honors survivors and families, and reminds us that every child deserves respect, dignity, and opportunity.

Together in Orange: Honoring Every Child

A simple orange shirt carries a powerful message of truth, healing, and hope.

On September 30th - Orange Shirt Day, we wear orange to honor Indigenous children taken from their families and placed in residential schools. The shirt symbolizes loss of culture and identity, but also the strength and spirit of survivors.

This movement is about remembrance, solidarity, and reconciliation. By wearing orange, you stand with a growing call for justice - because every child deserves to be seen, heard, and loved. 🧡 Every Child Matters.

    love it!!!

I recently got my hands on some of the beaded products from Welcome Native Spirit, and I have to say, they are absolutely amazing! The intricate beadwork on the hat, patch, and bracelette is a testament to the skill and talent of the indigenous artists behind these creations. Not only are they visually stunning, but they also hold deep cultural significance.
Each piece tells a story and represents the rich heritage of Native American traditions.
